AARP’s Top 100 Places to Live in the U.S. for Older Adults

Why are there no places in New Hampshire?  All of our neighboring states are included in this top 100 list, but no place in New Hampshire.

AARP’s Livability Index platform ranks America’s communities using indicators important to people of all ages. Included are essentials, such as accessibility to quality medical care, parks, grocery stores and affordable housing. There are also social and cultural considerations, such as lively, engaged neighborhoods; plus access to exercise, walkability and easy/affordable transportation options.  They go on to group towns/cities in categories based on population size: Very large: e.g. San Francisco, Large: e.g. Arlington, Virginia, Medium:  e.g. Cliffside Park, New Jersey and Small: Great Neck Plaza, New York.

Under large communities is Cambridge, Massachusetts

Under medium size communities is Portland and South Portland Maine; Burlington, Vermont; Brookline, Somersworth, Belmont and Arlington, Massachusetts

Under small communities is Montpelier, Winooski, and Chittendon, Vermont

Apparently, the NH Advantage did not make us shine in this analysis of livability. Why do you think we’re not on the list?
